Mr. Poopybutthole v2.0 FREE crochet pattern

The original pattern is here. It's fine, but it was one of my older patterns and it was long overdue for a re-write for clarity, etc. etc.

You can get a nice PDF version of this pattern with a lot of extra photos for help with assembly (and also support monetarily me so I can keep making patterns for you people) by clicking here (also consider becoming one of my Ko-Fi members???).

Now let's get down to business because this isn't a recipe blog and I don't feel like writing an essay today. Oooh weeee!

This is your long-time family friend, Mr. Poopybutthole! This is an easy pattern, good for beginners who want to make something with some more parts/color changes. Also, fast if you need an emergency long-time family friend! As usual, feel free to share your cool creations on my Facebook page!

Materials and Supplies

·         Yarn (worsted or whatever weight you want) in yellow, black, cyan/light blue, brown, and white

·         An appropriate hook for your chosen yarn/desired gauge (use an F or G for worsted, up to a J if you want a bigger long-time family friend)

·         Stuffing material

·         Yarn needle, for sewing the parts together and embroidering the mouth

·         Stitch marker

·         Pins (optional, but recommended for positioning the parts before attaching – I use bobby pins)

·         Wire (optional, for posable arms legs – I did not do this because I low-key hate wiring, but it is absolutely a thing that is doable if you want to)

Abbreviations/Skills Needed

·         Ch: chain

·         Sl: slip stitch

·         Sc: single crochet

·         Inc: increase

·         Dec: decrease

·         St/sts: stitch/stitches

·         Rnd/rnds: round/rounds

·         FLO: front loops only – there’s one rnd of this for the brim of the hat

I worked in BLO (back loops only). This is a weird preference that I have, and it makes crochet plushies less stiff. It is OPTIONAL, but I do recommend it for cuddles.

All rnds are continuous, so a stitch marker is good!

Gauge: gauge is not all that important for plushies, y’all…but to help you get your desired size an F hook gave me approx. 4 sts/in and 4 rows/in

Finished Mr. Poopybutthole when made with an F hook with the above gauge and as patterned in BLO is about 17” tall from the top of his hat to his feet. You can resize with larger or smaller hooks/yarn or working tighter/looser – whatever you want.

A video for the "tricky" parts.

PATTERN

Total number of sts is noted in parentheses ().

HEAD

With yellow, starting at the top and working down.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6);

Rnd 2: inc around (12);

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18);

Rnd 4: (sc 2, inc) x6 (24);

Rnd 5: (sc 3, inc) x6 (30);

Rnd 6: (sc 4, inc) x6 (36);

Rnds 7-24: sc around (36);

            You can start stuffing at any point in this section and continue stuffing as you go. Stuff firmly but do not overstuff and stretch the stitches. You don’t want to see your stuffing through your stitches, but you want the piece to hold its shape.

Rnd 25: (sc 4, dec) x6 (30);

Rnd 26: (sc 3, dec) x6 (24);

Rnd 27: (sc 2, dec) x6 (18), break off with a long tail for joining to the body.

BODY

With black, starting at the butt.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6);

Rnd 2: inc around (12);

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18);

Rnd 4: (sc 2, inc) x6 (24);

Rnd 5: (sc 3, inc) x6 (30);

Rnd 6: (sc 4, inc) x6 (36);

Rnds 7-8: sc around (36), switch to blue at the end of rnd 8;

            When attaching the other parts, you can position the color change at the back of your Mr. Poopybutthole to hide the jogging.

Rnds 9-18: sc around (36);

            You can start stuffing at any point in this section and continue stuffing as you go. Stuff moderately firm. I made the body squishier than the head and then soft-sculpted it, so it was a little bit flat instead of a cylinder.

Rnd 19: (sc 4, dec) x6 (30);

Rnd 20: (sc 3, dec) x6 (24);

Rnd 21: (sc 2, dec) x6 (18), break off with a short tail to hide.

Attach the head to the body, putting the holes together. You can also add a bit of stuffing to the neck area for more support before completely joining.

LEGS

Make 2.

Starting with brown at the feet.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6);

Rnd 2: inc around (12);

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18);

Rnds 4-5: sc around (18);

Rnd 6: dec around (9), switch to white yarn, stuff the foot;

Rnds 7-8: sc around (9), switch to yellow after rnd 8;

Rnds 9-13: sc around (9), switch to black after rnd 13;

Rnds 14-19: sc around (9), break off after rnd 19 with a long tail for sewing to the body.

Stuffing the leg is optional. Again, you can also wire it if that’s up your alley. It is not up mine.

Attach the legs to the bottom of the body. You can also attach them more toward the front to make your long-time family friend sit nicer. It’s up to you. Use your pins to try different positions! I didn’t stuff my legs and attached them to the bottom.

ARMS

Make 2.

With yellow, starting at the hand.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook (8);

Rnd 2: inc around (16);

Rnd 3: sc around (16);

Rnd 4: dec around (8);

Rnds 5-15: sc around (8), switch to blue at the end of rnd 15;

Rnds 16-18: sc around (8), break off after rnd 18 with a long tail for sewing to the body.

Stuffing/wiring the arms is optional. I did neither. I pinched the top together and closed it flat with a whip stitch for a flat edge.

Attach the arms at the shoulders, lined up with the legs, of course, about a rnd down from the neck area.

HAT

With black, starting at the top.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (7);

Rnd 2: inc around (14);

Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x7 (21);

Rnd 4: (sc 6, inc) x3 (24);

Rnds 5-11: sc around (24), switch to light blue at the end of rnd 11, do not break off black just let it hang out to pick it back up momentarily;

Rnds 12-13: sc around (24), switch back to black and break off light blue;

Rnd 14: FLO this rnd only (sc 3, inc) x6 (30);

Rnd 15: sc 2 (inc, sc 4) x5, sc 2 (36), sl in the 1st sc, break off with a long tail for attaching to the head.

            Use a yarn needle to weave the tail back 2 rnds to where the brim started. Here’s a video if you don’t know what I mean.

Stuff the hat and sew it to the top of the head. Also, a video!

EYES

Make 2.

With white.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6);

Rnd 2: inc around (12);

Rnd 3: (sc 2, inc) x3 (16);

Rnd 4: sc around (16), break off with a long tail for sewing to the face.

Stitch on the pupil with black. Here’s a video!

Stuff the eyes so they are rounded. Sew the eyes to the face about 6 rnds down from the seam where you attached the hat to the head, with about 3 sts between the eyes.

NOSE

With yellow.

Rnd 1: ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6);

Rnds 2-6: sc around (6), break off after rnd 6 with a tail to stitch to the face.

Flat seam the opening and then attach the nose lining it up with the bottom edges of the eyes and directly between them.

Finishing: Stitch on the mouth with a bit of black yarn. Here's a video, of course, because this blows peoples' minds.

The end!

You can make and sell finished Mr. Poopybutthole plushies but be sure to link back to this pattern and give appropriate credit since I typed it up all nice. Please DO NOT duplicate or resell this pattern.
