It costs that much 'cause it takes me f*cking hours.

Behold, the theme song of this post: This is kind of a serious post. Kind of.  I want to chat a bit about my Phoenix Wright hats and answer some questions/address some concerns I've gotten. I started making these hats back in the early days of my Etsy shop (2012-ish). The first version was double-knit and took me about 20 hours to make - this was terrible, obviously. I sold them for a laughable price that I won't even mention because I'm so embarrassed. Closing sales was more important to me than actually making a profit. I have been tweaking this design since then. I soon realized I needed to make a more efficient version, so I reworked the pattern and started making a double-thick version with *duplicate stitch. *Duplicate stitch is a type of embroidery that mimics the V-shape of knit stitches, which is worked over the knit stitches. It is very tedious, but the end results are very nice. It maintains the stretchiness of the piece and is particularly good for when the des...

Blue Badger Pattern

Image
This pattern took way longer than I anticipated. I am the absolute worst judge of time. Worst. I thought I would wrap it up on Friday then have the weekend, but I ended up working on it all weekend and then also Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Here I am posting about it after midnight on Thursday! I spent a heckin long time working on the companion videos for YouTube. Making videos is so incredibly time-consuming. It slows down my work and then I have to edit, etc. etc. etc. Here's my YouTube channel where you can find said videos if you want to listen to me talk for hours. I added chapter markers to these videos so you can follow along with the different sections of the written pattern.  You can buy the pattern from Ravelry or Ko-Fi . Of course you can also buy it from Etsy if you want to pay more money for it and don't want me to get that extra money.  There are also two (2) ready-to-ship, finished, physical Blue Badger plushies on Etsy. There is a cuddly version ...

Phoenix Wright Hat Restock For The First Time Since 2016

Image
Wow! I've done it. I've restocked not one but TWO versions of the PaPa hat from Ace Attorney. It has been a very long time since I actually STOCKED this hat. 2016. For real. I checked. The hat on the left is the standard version which I've made for the last several years but only as custom orders. The the one on the right is a new lightweight version. It's still two layers and double-thick so it will be warm for Halloween or if you want to wear it around during winter, but it's a lighter weight yarn and a looser knit. I was trying to make it breathable to be more comfortable for all-day wear at a summertime con.  I haven't been including the pins for custom orders, but I have pins again! Now all hats will come complete with the O-face pins! The pins are from Snow Bunny Studios , who is back in the making business again! Standard hat: HERE . Lightweight version: HERE . Now listen up, today is December 7th, and if you stumble here to this page and you want one of ...

WIP Wednesday - A Splatoon Bobble Hat Update

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: I no longer stock Splatoon hats, PaPa hats, nor Noiz hats, but I will make them as custom orders! Check my custom order status on my Etsy ! You can also make your own bobble and sporty bobble Splatoon hats with this pattern ! My blog has been so neglected! I've been spending every waking hour making Phoenix Wright 'PaPa' hats  (also available without the button here ) and Noiz cosplay hats , which I think I mentioned in my last update...ages ago. I swear that I'll eventually get back into the habit of Free Pattern Fridays one day as well. I tried very hard to get some Splatoon Bobble Hats ready in time for Halloween, but a series of strange events occurred with fabric being out of stock, so on and so forth. I won't bore you with my excuses because I hate listening to excuses and I'm sure you do too. What can I do to make up for my failure to reach my own arbitrary deadline? A coupon code, of course! And I have actually made progress on...

Phoenix Wright Cosplay Hat - Prototype Hat Available NOW

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: I no longer stock these hats. I will make them custom though and I no longer make them this way. I now make them solid blue and duplicate stitch on the lettering.  If you're interested in a custom order, head to my Etsy page to see my commission status. It will be in the announcement at the top!  Who buys knitwear out of season? Cosplayers do. Why didn't I think of this sooner? I whipped up a prototype of Phoenix Wright's 'Papa' beanie from Ace Attorney and I've got plans for a few other con-season hats as well. I'm working on so many things, guys. I must confess that I'm not terribly familiar with the Ace Attorney series. Despite my love of television law dramas, I'm not sure "visual novel legal thriller" is a genre that I would enjoy in the video game realm. I like my video games to be filled with sex and violence. Boobs and explosions. Persistent gore always toggled on. You know. To each their own though. I also enjoy ...
