Crochet Cosplay WIP: Sailor Saturn Gloves and Boots

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Format fixing. I was moving full-steam ahead on this mighty adventure. 'Was' is the operative word. I had some grand goals to finish completely by the end of this weekend. But alas! I thought I had another skein of Caron Simply Soft 'Passion.' I was trucking along on the boots when I ran out and discovered that I had no more. 'Passion' is the main purple I'm using. I don't even need that much more to finish. I left the house to get another skein and both Walmart and Michael's failed me. They always have this color, but not when I need it. I'm not going to order a single skein of yarn, so...I guess I'll be finishing the yarnwork for the Silence Glaive. Sweater Saturn Bag Lady Mitts Not having made a great deal of gloves in my crocheting time, I poked around the Internet until I found a pattern I could modify in order to work for this costume. I went with Stitch11's Simple, Easy and Quick Arm Warmers . I dropped my ...

Crochet Cosplay WIP: Sailor Saturn Silence Glaive Blade

UPDATE 2/6/23: I'm going to gather all of my Sailor Saturn posts together and in order in case anyone wants to actually read the saga chronologically.   I can't get my damn text to wrap around my images today, so everything is at the bottom. Sorry, Internet. I feel extra silly calling something made of yarn a "blade," but if this were real life and it wasn't made of yarn then it would, in fact, be a blade. Regardless, I finished it. I find it quite visually pleasing. There's a catch though! Yarn is really heavy. That also seems like a strange thing to say, doesn't it? But think about sweaters. I made a sweater to wrap around some cardboard and duct tape. It's causing the blade to be hilariously flaccid unless it's propped against something, which is a huge bummer - I think I can fix it by seaming the little ornate part under the blade directly to the blade. Most of the flaccidity is happened down where the blade connects to the pole. H...

Crochet Cosplay WIP: Sailor Saturn Silence Glaive

UPDATE 2/5/23: I don't have any major commentary to add to this, years later, but I am planning to get my YouTube going properly with WIP and tutorial videos this year! This is a small update so don't get too excited! I'm planning on another update later this week that is much more meatier 'n stuff. I took a break of sorts last week to finish up those Furry Beast hats . I've gotten started on the collar and I completed the first side of the top of the Silence Glaive. The collar isn't interesting yet, but the top of the glaive is pleasing. I shot some time-lapse footage as I worked on the glaive, which was highly experimental. I'm only like a lvl 1 videographer or whatever. I'm pretty pleased with the video with the exception of the idiotic angle I was filming from (and why am I wearing those ridiculous pants?). There was some logic behind it, I swear. Next time I'm going to raise it higher and come from over my right shoulder so you can actually se...

Dragon*Con 2015: Crochet Cosplay WIP - Sailor Saturn Week 3

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: If you stumbled on this post and you're wondering - I do still have this entire costume. EXCEPT the Silence Glaive. I made a ton of posts about it as I worked on it and it would be nice of me to gather all of the links together, I guess. I will add it to my to-do list for this blog revamping project I'm doing.  This past week I finished up the boob bow, covered the shaft of the Silence Glaive, tweaked the butt bow and did a great deal of intense, deep thinking about the bodice. When I say this, it sounds like I did a lot, but I unfortunately have surprisingly little to say about any of these parts. I'm especially lacking in clever commentary for this week's progress. In the upcoming days though I'm planning on shooting some time-lapse video of the top of the glaive. This will either be super cool or really boring. After that I might take a little break to work on my Nisha costume, which is not crochet. Boob Bow This bow is a little smaller th...

DragonCon 2015 Prep Begins...Now?

UPDATE 2/5/23: I still have this costume, except the Silence Glaive. I think I wax poetic about it in several other posts. I want to get back into cosplaying, but I don't have the time, especially since I'm fixated on crocheting elaborate costumes. Anyway, if you're into my cosplay, and want me to one day do it again, you should consider buying something from my shop ! I honest to God hate promoting myself so much, but who else is gonna do it, amirite?? I'm not actually getting started quite yet, but I did settle on the yarn I'll be using, and I have a partially constructed Silence Glaive. I had to get every Caron Simply Soft purple in order to find two that would optimally serve my purposes for Sailor Saturn. I'm going with Passion for the main purple and Plum for the shadows. Grape and Iris are majorly bright, so they got vetoed. For my bows I'm using Autumn Red and Burgundy. I have White, Gray Heather, and Charcoal Heather for the glaive. The White an...

WIP Wednesday - Beam Guardian Scarf and More!

UPDATE 2/2/23: Once again as I do this blog housekeeping, I have come upon a post that does not contain any links. Why in the world did I do a post with no links to the pertinent things? Also, I hate Gilmore Girls. I don't think I hated it until I watched it as an adult after making this post.  Beam Guardian patterns coming soon! Follow me on Facebook for the latest updates, so you don't miss them! And please check out my current shop inventory on Etsy ! Happy Wednesday! Happy October 1st! Happy Gilmore Girls is now on Netflix Day! I'm up to a couple different things - all of which are completely unrelated. Dark Tower Beam Guardian Scarf - Lion and Eagle At this exact moment the Lion and Eagle scarf is at 23" and I'm hoping to get at least 10" more done today. Maybe more. I'm really flying through this thing and I'm super happy with the lion. I need to go back and look at the eagle pattern I made again. Each time I look at it, I like it less. T...
