Oswald the Octopus FREE Crochet Pattern

Image
UPDATE 2/12/23: Just made some little changes to the format to make it more readable! It's been a while, kids. Here's a pretty easy and free pattern to make Oswald the Octopus! I may also make Weenie here soon-ish if anyone is interested. I used an F hook and worsted weight yarn to make a handful-sized Oswald. Use whatever hook and yarn you'd like. I also worked in black loops only! It's a weird preference and is not at all necessary for this pattern unless you want the same texture. Body With blue, ch 2; Rnd 1: work 7 sc into 2 nd ch from hook (7); Rnd 2: inc in each st around (14); Rnd 3: * sc, inc, repeat from * around (21); Rnd 4: * 2 sc, inc, repeat from * around (28); Rnd 5: * 3 sc, inc, repeat from * around (35); Place your stitch marker now, if you haven’t already. Unless you want to live on the edge. Rnd 6: * 4 sc, inc, repeat from * around (42); Rnd 7: * 5 sc, inc, repeat from * around (49); Rnd 8: sc around (49); Rnd 9: * 6 sc, inc, repea...

UPDATE 2/11/23: Can I make this smaller? Maybe?! I know it was used at least for a sweater by someone, which is awesome!   Look at me making relevant grids for once! This Wonderwoman chart is available in three sizes. Right-click and open in a new tab to access the larger images. Feel free to save the images too so you can zoom or resize. Like my Facebook page to stay up to date and be the first to know about new free charts and patterns, and swing by my Etsy store to buy stuff so I can afford to live and keep making free colorwork charts for the internet. Finishing Up Nisha + Full Costume Test Session

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Corrected some formatting issues and putting this here so I know I checked this post! lolol After DragonCon I hope to get back in the grove of Free Pattern Friday for real - at least a colorwork chart each week if not a complete pattern. I wrapped up both of my cosplays this year way early, but I've mostly just been working on stocking the shop for the impending hat season(!). This means I'm not really making any new or interesting things at the moment. I'm taking it easy until after the con, you see. Following this year's adventure, I'll be doing a full write up for both Sweater Saturn as well as Nisha for my main website  for those of you interested. I personally enjoy reading about other peoples' processes for ideas, etc. etc. My write-ups are pretty fun because I screw up a lot and they often contain many hilarious DO NOT DO THIS LIKE I DID tips. lololol Until then, here's a quick summary of the final parts of my Nisha costume and...

Cool Crafters From The Internet

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: If you have an Etsy shop or whatever and you'd like me to feature you in an article like this, please reach out to me on Facebook ! I'm hoping to make posts like this at least a once a month thing. I will in theory have some sort of theme each month, but who knows. I'm glad to help out. I can't guarantee it will help, but I will make the effort to get you some views and likes at least! People make some cool things and once in a while I come across especially cool things and some totally cool people on the Great Interwebs. It's been a while since I rounded up a list of rad crafters and this week seems like a good week to do it. Since I've finished up my mood blanket there will be no more Mood Blanket Mondays and I need to fill that void with something. This will have to do for this week. If you think I make cool stuff then you should definitely check out these people because I'm pretty sure they're all cooler than me. Give them a ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: It Is Finished

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Wow I finished this early. I did not follow the rules at all. At least I finished. I don't think the person running the challenge even finished.   Or I'm finished at least. With a whopping 198 squares of pure agony. That's 11 rows of 18 squares each. I was supposed to make it to the end of the year for a total of 360 squares (plus some rest days in there). But I don't need a damn queen-sized blanket and I've developed a boiling hatred for solid grannies. I vow on this day to never make another blanket with solid granny squares. Never. Never again, my friends. In fact, I don't think I'll ever make another solid granny square again. The tedium is crippling. If I had been actually making squares based on my mood they all would have been either blood red or black the last few months to represent the immense rage I felt whenever I had to make them. Shout out to Siouxsie Stitches , who initiated this terrible event here . Thanks, I've got ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day...82!

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: I know how to do SEO and I also know that the whole point of me doing this blog and all of these regular posts was to redirect people from the internet to my shop, and yet...I did not mention my shop or link to it in this post and I am so confused as I am here going through all of my old posts so many years later. WHAT WAS I DOING?! Anyway, shop . Day 82 has brought this blanket well into its fifth row. This time next week I'll be one square away from finishing the fifth row, so I'll probably just make an extra square and get it done. Then I'll probably still make seven squares and I'll be a square ahead. Mood Blanket Race, anyone?! I used what I felt like were a lot of subdued colors this past week. There's no particular reason for it. Again, I don't understand "moods." I may or may not be a robot. Also, yesterday was my birthday, but that doesn't really have anything to do with anything, does it?

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 75

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: My spite. It seeps through my words. Shop . Granny square stuff is really in right now. I don't totally hate all grannies. I just hated these? Or this whole project? I don't know. It's a great use of scrap yarn. I'm running out of clever things to say about this. I'm still doing it. I haven't stopped. I confess that I don't make one square a day though. I actually usually sit down once a week and make all seven. Sometimes more. I am keeping them in the order I'm making them at least. Finished the fourth row this past week. Got started on the fifth. The end.

Mood Blanket Challenge: Day 54

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: I love the random posts about this where I was really enthusiastically spiteful. I only did this project because I had so much scrap yarn. I hate waste. I hate wasting ANYTHING. It's part of my charm. You know what else is charming af? Buying things from my Etsy shop or becoming a monthly subscriber to my Ko-Fi . You know what is NOT charming af? That I have to do this awful self-promotion.  Day 54?! Whoa...did I maths right? That's three whole rows. This last row was a lot of pastels and, uh, browns. This thing is getting more and more random and I can't wait to put it to use when it's done. To recap, I'm making basic SEXY YARN squares in whatever color or colors I feel like using from either my scrap yarn bin or from whatever other project I'm working at the time. I'm joining them with a run of the mill sc join in black and then doing an sc border around each row then joining each row again with the sc join. I think this is creating some...

Shop Unique. Shop Etsy For The Holidays.

Image
UPDATE 2/4/23: This was a nice thing that I did periodically that I will start doing again this year! I also can't figure out why this post is formatted so weird and I cannot seem to fix it. I have rifled all through the HTML and I give up.     Hey Internet,  Handmadeology  (Facebook page  here ) is doing a neat promotion called  Shop Unique. Shop Etsy for the Holidays . If you didn’t know about this already then you should totally check it out. There’s lots of cool handmade stuff out there, you just have to find it. If you're a fellow crafter then you should support your fellow starving artists for sure. Here are a couple of my favorite Etsy shops/shops of my pals to feast your eyeballs on: SouthPawEngraving  ( Facebook ) - He makes a lot of earrings, but he can pretty much do anything from pendants for necklaces to Christmas tree ornaments. He also make things he’s already made in a million other colors. He's the dude behind Jarman P...

Bigfeet, Double Knitting and the Quest for the Dark Tower

Image
UPDATE 2/4/23: None of these hats are available anymore because this was many years ago. I am thinking about making some double-knit bigfoot hats for this fall though. Get the FREE bigfoot hat knitting pattern here .  Absolutely go check out my current inventory on Etsy ! You can also find my commission status there! If you're interested in patterns, then go to my Ko-Fi page ! There are a lot of patterns there that I don't have on Etsy or even on Ravelry and I even offer monthly subscriptions for goodies!   1. Bigfeet I promised the internet a pattern for the bigfoot hat . I've made two as custom orders (one without a pom pom and one with a pom pom) using worsted weight yarn, but the original hat is most certainly double knitted using DK. I'll post the pattern for the one-sided knit version this Friday for...Free Pattern Friday! I need to take a stab at making the double knitted version. Mentioning this transitions nicely into my next topic of discussion. 2. Dou...

Dark Tower Beam Guardian Scarf - Turtle and Bear

Image
UPDATE 2/1/23: Why did I not include my Etsy link anywhere in this post? I'm constantly confused by a lot of my old blog posts. The point of this blog was to drive traffic to my page to make money? And yet there are so many posts that do not contain the links to get to the places to give me the money. lololol I WILL ABSOLUTELY be FINALLY making the Beam Guardian animal patterns available. If you want the latest updates, you need to follow me on Facebook .  I'm really happy with how the second Beam Guardian scarf turned out. It's longer than I meant for it to be (coming in at 66" without the fringe). I kept psyching myself out thinking it was too short. There's nothing worse than a stumpy scarf, amirite??  I meant for it to be between 55" and 60" then overshot a good bit. With the 5" fringe on either end it's a pretty lengthy piece. It's 7" wide and making it less wide would make the Guardians a pain in the ass, so I'm settled on...
