UPDATED Dalek Hats Crochet Pattern!

Image
I finally got around to doing one of the numerous things that I had planned to do at the start of this year! I updated one of my very old patterns! The Dalek Hats! And this is just in time for the new Doctor Who! I went through and improved the pattern, tweaking the sizing, and I added more details to the written pattern and some additional images of the new version of the hats. The last section of the pattern is text-only for those people that like to print their patterns! AND I also made a few videos to go along with the pattern, which you can find on my YouTube channel , which I hope to update more frequently with more and more fun (weird, unhinged) tutorials.  Anyway, I don't want to ramble too much, so you can find links to the updated Dalek Hats pattern below:  Crochet Dalek Hats on Ko-Fi Crochet Dalek Hats on Ravelry I kept the pattern the same price, although it is much more detailed now (just $5 USD). It includes both the classic Dalek design and the newer paradigm Da...

DragonCon 2015: Photo Recap

UPDATE 2/6/23: Fixed weird formatting on this post from my theme change. Making this weird comment at the top so I know I have been here. Great Blog Fixing of 2023. I didn't take nearly as many pictures as I have in years past and some of these were taken by my pseudo-handler and water-carrier, cats_and_critical_hits . If you stumble on this page and see yourself, please send me a message so I can give you the wonderful credit you deserve for being awesome. I'll also include links to your page(s) or whatever if you want, just let me know! XOXOX If you have burning questions about my crochet Sailor Saturn cosplay, check out the FAQ post. Thursday! Thursday night was pretty hoppin' so I put on Nisha to roam around and pick up my earrings from Eric ( Southpaw Engraving , Jarman Props ). Ran into a doge cosplay and died then we screwed around with Eric's kantus head. I forgot the earrings I was going to wear with Nisha so I decided to just use my Saturn earrings bec...

Crochet Clearance!

UPDATE 2/5/23: For some reason I made my shamefully cheap prices even lower... The shop is overcrowded. I want to get rid of items I'm not planning on keeping stocked anymore in order to feel justified when I make some new stuff. New stuff? Yes. New Stuff. New stuff is coming. One day. Before that though, I want to get rid of some goodies. The crochet goodies are for sale right now until the end of this month. Everything crochet is $5 off! Go now! To the Etsy store ! Everything for sale is marked SALE and I've done the math for you. This sale includes what's left of my Lantern Corps beanies as well as the Dalek beanies, plus some other items that have been hanging out in the shop for a while now too. I'll also make custom crochet orders for $5 cheaper this month, so there's that.

Twin Peaks and...Daleks?!

Image
UPDATE 2/4/23: Hey! Get the Dalek hats pattern here !  I'm hella excited for Season 3 of Twin Peaks in 2016. I don't make plans for my life that far in advance, but I'm totally planning to watch the long-awaited third season of one of the greatest shows to ever grace television.  I've been trying real hard to clear out my mighty yarn stash to make room for new yarns and I ran across a little of this beige and a little of this bronze. They seemed to serve no other purpose except to make a double-knit Owl Cave hat (that I'd been meaning to get around to for ages)! Get it here . Reversible! Double-sided! Twin Peaks! OMG! I also whipped up a couple of Baby Dalek hats for the holidays! The red and green ones are all part of the RED N GREEN SALE, so they're $5 off. Unlike the prototypes I made when I was creating the pattern , these are made of extra-soft premium acrylic yarn instead of regular ol' acrylic.  Yellow-Orange 1-3 Year SALE  ...

Shop Unique. Shop Etsy For The Holidays.

UPDATE 2/4/23: This was a nice thing that I did periodically that I will start doing again this year! I also can't figure out why this post is formatted so weird and I cannot seem to fix it. I have rifled all through the HTML and I give up.     Hey Internet,  Handmadeology  (Facebook page  here ) is doing a neat promotion called  Shop Unique. Shop Etsy for the Holidays . If you didn’t know about this already then you should totally check it out. There’s lots of cool handmade stuff out there, you just have to find it. If you're a fellow crafter then you should support your fellow starving artists for sure. Here are a couple of my favorite Etsy shops/shops of my pals to feast your eyeballs on: SouthPawEngraving  ( Facebook ) - He makes a lot of earrings, but he can pretty much do anything from pendants for necklaces to Christmas tree ornaments. He also make things he’s already made in a million other colors. He's the dude behind Jarman P...

Cybershade Mask - FINISHED

Image
UPDATE 1/26/23: Looking at this, I'm really happy with it. My skills have improved a bit since and I'd make a much nicer one today if I remade it, but it wasn't a bad job at all! I had no idea what I was doing! On a semi-related note, I have a crochet Star Whale pattern available as well as crochet Dalek beanies , if you have stumbled on this post. You can see what physical items I have available in my Etsy shop ! I wrapped my cybershade mask up earlier this week. I'd almost like to make a full suit, but let's be real - that shit would take forever. Here's a look at the last few steps as well as the finished mask. If you've been paying attention you know that I made this largely out of cardboard. I used model magic in the joints as well as for the pipes that extend from the head. I made the rivets out of air-dry clay. It was all held together by a lot of layers of polyurethane resin. Finally, I painted the thing with some metallic gold paint. After th...

The Infamous Zer0 Suit + Other Stuff

Image
UPDATE 1/27/23: I still have my Zer0 suit! Of course! WHY WOULDN'T I. I did scrap the Cyberking helmet though. I've played with the idea of making it from foam clay, but I don't have the time at the moment. For the latest updates on my 7645 projects, follow me on Facebook ! Take a look at my current FOR SALE inventory on Etsy . I guess I should have posted this yesterday on WIP WEDNESDAY. But I didn't. Zer0 Suit I've painted up to the knee of the left leg! I'm using Jones Tones Stretchable Paint diluted to various levels. It's working fan-fucking-tastic. No joke. It is performing wonderfully on the spandex parts of the suit and it's also working just fine on the felt and the fosshape . Fosshape is also amazing. I stitched the armor pieces on and then hardened and formed them. My one fosshape pointer? It shrinks when you harden it. I'm sure it says that somewhere. I'm hoping to continue up the left leg this weekend AND start the sword. I...

WIP Wednesday - Hats, Beam Scarf and More!

Update 1/23/23: Long posts are good wtf was old me talking about? lol Blogs are for the search robots, not for actual people to read! I mean, you totally can read them. I try to still make them readable for human beings and such. I know a lot more about SEO now than I did back in the day. If you found your way here for llamas, check this out: Jerry Horne's Llama Mitts I reverse-engineered Jerry's mitts and also included the llama chart. I made some hats with it. It's free! Also, while you're here, you should take a look around my Etsy ! If you want free stuff then I have to sell stuff, such is life. You can also see if my commissions are open. For patterns, head to Ravelry ! I'm now offering a cool monthly subscription service on Ko-Fi too!  ~~~~ Beware: Long Post Because I Don't Feel Like Making Multiple Posts. I'm working on a lot of things right now, including some personal projects and I'm about to start a pretty big commission as well. New Hats ...

Cybershade WIP

Image
UPDATE 1/26/23: I'm out of control, but semi-related to all of this...I have a crochet Star Whale pattern as well as crochet Dalek beanie patterns available! UPDATE 1/23/23: I did, indeed, finish this mask. I still have it somewhere. I think I made a later post about wearing it at DragonCon and the Doctor Who children did not even recognize it because I guess they don't want the holiday specials or whatever? The Doctor Who fandom is sort of shitty, imo. For such a wholesome show, a lot of the fans are gorbage. No offense to the fans who are not! I am generalizing. It's just not a very cool fandom in my experience and I think that is exceptionally weird considering the source material. You know what is a pretty great fandom? Wrestling. For the most part, wrestling fans are excellent. There is, of course, a sub-set of fans that are mysoginist fuckfaces, but again, in my experience, the bulk is wholesome. The opposite of Doctor Who. I am just rambling to give words to the s...

Cyberking Progress

UPDATE 1/23/23: I'm here to provide updates on all of my ancient posts, 9 years later. I never finished this, if anyone is wondering. Part of me wants to make it with foam clay...  So here's this - a good ol' Miss Hartigan/Cyberking headpiece WIP. It's obviously not done. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with it or even if it's going to fit my head properly. I'm also unsure about its durability. All-in-all I'm really unsure, but it's been fun so far. I'm leaning toward applying a thin layer of fiberglass after I have all of the pieces finished then I'll paint it and drop it off of the porch to see if it breaks. Or I might use it to make a cast and then make it in another material. No idea. This is some air-dry clay I had on hand and a foam head. I do love foam heads.

Birth of the Crochet Dalek Beanies

Image
UPDATE 1/26/23: Semi-related: I also have a crochet Star Whale pattern available! UPDATE 1/22/23: Here I am going through all of my old blog posts and checking on links, adding updated pictures, and all that jazz! Look at me go! I'm using so many exclamation points in 2023! I now have a pattern for both adult and baby-sized Dalek beanies available from Ravelry ! Classic Daleks and the Paradigm Daleks! Both are very easy and very nice introduction to tapestry crochet in the round! They're also very easy to resize for custom heads!  Making these hats also made me hate making pom-poms and I hate making pom-poms to this very day! I'm definitely overdue for a Doctor Who rewatch and catch-up...which means I might make some more of these...  I came across a strange device, obviously from space. It was a Progenitor device. But it was a YARN Progenitor device. I've been on a Doctor Who kick lately, rewatching all of that nonsense. I decided to poke around and look at some ot...
