It's WIP Wednesday Again!

Image
Today is also the first day of a new month, so there are new goodies over on Ko-Fi ! Glaceon, Blastoise, and Raticate charts! Follow that previous link where I ramble about it a little more.  I also did a small shop update on Etsy featuring some of the WIP bags I posted about last week! There will be another mid-month Ko-Fi update this month for members, and the next shop update will not be until March 1st. Also, commissions are closed until March so I can work on some TUTORIAL VIDEOS and do some housekeeping of this here blog.  Anywho, my daisy bag did not get finished in time for the shop update so it's still a work in progress! I've made all of the squares for one side, but I haven't joined them. I'm going to use a dark brown wooden handle for this bag, and I'm not totally sure how I want to join them nor am I sure about the border, so I'm going to finish making the squares first. You can get the daisy square pattern here . It's very easy! And free! I...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: It Is Finished

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Wow I finished this early. I did not follow the rules at all. At least I finished. I don't think the person running the challenge even finished.   Or I'm finished at least. With a whopping 198 squares of pure agony. That's 11 rows of 18 squares each. I was supposed to make it to the end of the year for a total of 360 squares (plus some rest days in there). But I don't need a damn queen-sized blanket and I've developed a boiling hatred for solid grannies. I vow on this day to never make another blanket with solid granny squares. Never. Never again, my friends. In fact, I don't think I'll ever make another solid granny square again. The tedium is crippling. If I had been actually making squares based on my mood they all would have been either blood red or black the last few months to represent the immense rage I felt whenever I had to make them. Shout out to Siouxsie Stitches , who initiated this terrible event here . Thanks, I've got ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: The Misery Continues

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: I aggressively leaned into how much I hated this. I hated it so much that I finished it super early because I wanted to be done. This absolutely means I was the winner of the challenge. Fight me. Take a look at my current inventory on Etsy or head to Ko-Fi for patterns and much more!  Of course I didn't make an entire row. The fact that I said I was going to rendered me incapable of doing so. I made 9 squares, which is half of a row, so I only half lied. There's a lot of brown again. That's some Vanna's Choice. I don't care for it. It's really...squishy? I don't hate it like I do Paton's Metallic, it's just not my first choice for acrylic. I made a custom Twin Peaks hat last week and had some leftover - not enough to make anything else of substance - so I just made some squares. I'm pretty sure that after I attach this final row, I'll be finished. There's going to be a black border around the whole blanket and that wil...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: I Just Want This To Be Over

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Adding cat pictures really enhanced these posts. I still don't see the wool square...if you're keeping up with that saga for some reason. Somehow. Why. Etsy . I only made three squares. It was all I needed to make in order to finish the current row. This doesn't matter because I'm still many squares ahead. After I finish one more row I believe this blanket will be of ample size and I can end this madness. I'm going to do a round or two of sc in black to tie this mighty crapghan together. The cats really like it. Cats really like crochet. I have one of those Sunny Seat cat window bed suction cup things and after the immense amount of hatred I have for granny squares subsides, I think I'll make a granny square cover for it.

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 166

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: I absolutely won this challenge because I outlasted the person hosting the stupid thing.  I intended to make only the required seven squares this past week, but my ability to count fooled me again and I made eight. This means I have a total of 177 squares or something. I could count them, but counting isn't in my skillset, apparently. Also, it appears that the creator of this challenge, Siouxsie Stitches , has given up. Or at least hasn't been updating her blog with her mood blanket progress. Does this mean I win? Is this challenge a last one standing sort of thing? trolololol I'm also fairly certain that my personal Hell will be making plain granny squares for all eternity and joining them to a blanket that never gets any larger.

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 159 And My Mood Is Hate

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: This is also a good post about my disdain for this project. Also cat pics are nice. Visiting my Etsy shop is nice too. I guess hate isn't a mood, is it? I only made the required seven squares this week and I made them all yesterday because following rules is hard. I couldn't bring myself to go on after seven because there were 1 million things I would have rather been doing than making granny squares. I intended to make an entire row, you see, further propelling myself many squares ahead and closer to completion. Completing a row and attaching it is the only way I derive any joy from this joy-sucking project. Remind me not to engage in any sort of mundane crochet blanket challenge ever again. Just let me make a yearly scrapghan in peace! Yes, I could just stop following the rules entirely. I could cease to do these drab Mood Blanket Monday posts, but I will not! I will not do it because I need to update this blog at least once a week and this God forsaken b...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 152 With Cat Approval

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: This is my favorite post about this project so far. This is a good post. I'm so witty. You should also check out my Etsy shop . After last week's confusion I made an entire row of squares this week. I actually made most of them yesterday. I hate following rules. I will not be told what to do. Only one square a day is ridiculous. I couldn't stop thinking about where and how my counting went wrong. Despite my expressing that I didn't have time to figure it out, I of course stopped everything and figured it out. The confusion began with my inability to follow instructions. I make more than one square a day on some days and on other days I will make no squares. Yes, I am cheating. I am a huge cheater. I had worked a fair number of squares ahead and believed I had made enough for last week while still being ahead from the weeks before where I finished rows when I didn't need to. I thought that at the end of last week I'd be finishing a row when in...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 145?

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Some of these squares are really ugly. I have some not ugly things available on Etsy . I went ahead and finished the row then took this beast outside for a photoshoot. I really should sweep the leaves off of the porch. Have I mentioned that I hate magnolia trees? They're the shittiest trees and I was struck in the shoulder my a rogue magnolia seed pod piece of crap yesterday. My grandmother always told me not to stand under magnolias as a child because the cones would hit me in the head and I would die. I think she may have been correct. I think something weird happened with my math and/or basic ability to count at some point recently. I seem to have 144 squares? And today is Day 145? Or is it 157? Day 1,743? I'm not sure how many days are in what months and, well, something is off. I usually do my maths each week based on the number I used in the previous week's post. WHATEVER. I can't be bothered with figuring out what happened because I have massive...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 138 or Thereabouts

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: WHERE IS THE WOOL SQUARE?! I know it exists and I can find it on the blanket in the current time. Today. On this day, on the actual blanket. Why can I not find it in all of these weekly blanket update posts?! This is a SAGA. Visit my Etsy while I scour these posts. Hark! It's Monday. The day when I hold myself accountable to this stupid blanket. Here are my squares. I'll finish this row this week and attach it. I'm almost out of scrap yarn, but I just bought a bunch of new yarn for a few new projects. This means there will be some exciting, new, never-before-seen colors in this blanket. Wow. Getting crazy. Living on the edge. I'll make up for this extra boring post with some other posts this week. I did some work on my BL:TPS Nisha cosplay, I'll be back to working on Crochet Sailor Saturn AND I made a snarky tutorial that I'm vaguely excited about. Vaguely excited is a mood, right? Apparently "vaguely excited" is represented by some ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 131

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: I think the issue I ended up taking with this project was that I was expected to do only one square a day. I don't mind so much doing a bunch of squares then taking a break for a few days and things like that, but it was this whole "Mood Blanket" concept with this daily nonsense. Anyway. Check out my Etsy shop !  Words cannot express how immensely tired I am of working on this and posting around it weekly. I've stuck to my Monday posts and I haven't fallen behind on my squares, but I am suffering from major ennui. I guess that's what it's a "challenge," innit? I keep thinking that if I felt more feelings and actually picked a color each day based somehow on my emotion that this would be more fun. I mostly pick colors based on what is on to of my scrap bin or what is closest to me. If you look closely at my pictures of the bulk of the blanket from last week you should be able to spot some of my Sailor Saturn colors - this is beca...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 124

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: As I continue slogging through these posts and continue thinking deeply about the infamous wool square, I cannot remember why I even had wool yarn. Why did I make with it such that I had just enough scrap left to make a single wool square? I cannot remember. Like, at all. I don't appear to have done any posts about any wool projects. I do not care for wool. I will occasionally use wool blend when requested for extra warmth, but, like, another mystery for the ages. Giggidy! Etsy !  I have 126 squares. Winning! I took it outside to capture the truly ugly squares. In addition to being covered in cat hair, it's now got some nature parts on it - mainly, magnolia leaves. Magnolia trees are the shittiest of all trees. I've run out of things to say about this project...as you can maybe tell. Here are pictures.

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: 118 Squares (On Day 117)

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: If you've for some reason been reading my years-later commentary on these ancient filler posts, you might be aware of the infamous wool square. The single wool granny square that I included in this blanket, which shrank and felted in the wash. Is it in this picture? Nope. lol If you're interested in seeing what I currently have available, meander over to my Etsy !  Technically, I should have 117 squares today (I did some math). Hooray for the Mood Blanket Challenge . I'm a square ahead as of right now, but I'm going to end up another square ahead this coming week. I'm going to be a single square away from finishing a row, so I'll go ahead and make an extra square to get it done. Again. If this were a race, I'd totally be winning. How very riveting! I'm also nearly out of scrap yarn. That's equally riveting. If you're riveted by yarn and granny square blankets, that is. I'm thinking about doing a bunch of the same color in ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Row 6 Completion + Some Updates

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: This blanket was quite lively. It's been washed many times over the years and since it now belongs to cats, it is less lively. I honestly admire my dedication to providing these updates all those years ago as I worked on it spitefully.  It's another cloudy Monday, so I can't drag this beast outside for a natural light photoshoot on the back deck. It's starting to look like a blanket finally - albeit an ugly one. There are some truly hideous squares in there, which I'm quite proud of. My goal of intentionally making the ugliest mood blanket in the world will surely be met. The sixth row is done plus three squares of the next row. I'm a square ahead of the other nubs doing this, right? I'm thinking I'll stop at ten or eleven rows...depending how much scrap yarn I have left at that point and if I have a blanket-sized blanket at that point as well. I do not need a giant blanket and I am also a quitter. Making these squares is starting to ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 103 or Thereabouts

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: Lord have mercy! Where are the links?! Please, visit my Etsy to see what I have available and check my commission status! If you're looking patterns then I recommend my Ko-Fi , where I also offer a cool monthly subscription! I managed to not fall behind on my mood blanket despite my extreme video game binge. The binge is now over, more or less. I'm going to replay Dragon Age II for my missing achieves and then blunder through Inquisition again to get some different outcomes. I will do this at a leisurely pace that doesn't interfere with my making stuff. Video game chatter is not for a craft blog! Moving on... So here are seven new squares and this row will be finished up this week! Finishing rows is my favorite. Also, look at my scrap yarn bin, which is now a basket! It was a tangled mess that took up a bin about three times the size of the current basket before I got started. I'm hoping to get through all of the little balls of yarn and get rid of ...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 96 or Something

Image
UPDATE 2/6/23: My dedication to frequent updates about this blanket was admirable. My lack of including links to my own pertinents was not. So, Etsy . Also, Ko-Fi . To recap: Mood Blanket Challenge 2015 I'm making my squares from scrap yarn and disregarding my moods. This is helping me get rid of uselessly tiny balls of yarn I've accumulated, but making some of my squares hilariously ugly. I'm seaming my squares with an sc seam and then doing a round of sc around each completed row before sc seaming the rows together. Now, excuse me. I have to go play Dragon Age: Inquisition. Cool updates on less boring things later this week, I promise. BUT FIRST I NEED TO CLOSE THE BREACH AND KILL ALL THE TEMPLARS.

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 89 + 1

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: I made a single square in this blanket out of wool. It ended up shrinking and felting in the wash because of course it did because I am a dingdong. In each of these posts, I find myself scouring the pictures looking for that one wool square lololol It's there somewhere and I'll know it as soon as I see it and I will point it out in these update ramblings! Visit my Etsy shop .  I made an extra square this week to finish up the fifth row. This puts me a square ahead of any other nubs participating in this challenge. I'm planning on doing the normal seven squares this week so I'll be remaining a square ahead. I also decided that I really don't need a queen-sized crapghan. Like, that's too big. I'm sort of a quitter too and this is starting to bore me. Whatevs. I'm putting a hearty dent in my scrap yarn, which was my main goal. Plus I'll have a new blanket for next winter. Here are some pictures. I seem to have only felt the need to tak...

Mood Blanket Challenge 2015: Day 68 or Something

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: I hated this project so much and I hated posting about it. I also failed to include a link to my shop . I seriously hate promoting myself so much. I can stand on a mountaintop and scream praises of my friends' work but I feel so dirty doing it myself, but here I am, going through all these old posts and beefing them up and adding links because you gotta do what you gotta do. I almost forgot to make my arbitrary post about this magnificent yearlong crapghan. Look at this week's sexy yarn squares, aren't they sexy? Of course. I'm four squares away from finishing the fourth row, so next week's arbitrary update will be extra exciting. Finishing rows is always exciting.

Mood Blanket Challenge: Day 61?

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: Going back and reading all of these posts is sort of hilarious. I can feel my spite for this project resonating through the screen. Again, this blanket now belongs to my cats if for some reason you were wondering and somehow found this ancient blog post. And hey, if you're here, why don't you go look at my shop !  This past week consisted of a lot of bland colors. Again. This encapsulates my default mood: apathy. The three-colored square on day whatever-that-was-math is symbolic of my different layers of apathy. Perhaps this week I'll be compelled to make some more brightly colored squares or, at the very least, work on something that isn't a bland color. You never know. I'm full of surprises. The surprises are sandwiched between my layers of apathy.

Mood Blanket Challenge: Day 54

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: I love the random posts about this where I was really enthusiastically spiteful. I only did this project because I had so much scrap yarn. I hate waste. I hate wasting ANYTHING. It's part of my charm. You know what else is charming af? Buying things from my Etsy shop or becoming a monthly subscriber to my Ko-Fi . You know what is NOT charming af? That I have to do this awful self-promotion.  Day 54?! Whoa...did I maths right? That's three whole rows. This last row was a lot of pastels and, uh, browns. This thing is getting more and more random and I can't wait to put it to use when it's done. To recap, I'm making basic SEXY YARN squares in whatever color or colors I feel like using from either my scrap yarn bin or from whatever other project I'm working at the time. I'm joining them with a run of the mill sc join in black and then doing an sc border around each row then joining each row again with the sc join. I think this is creating some...

Mood Blanket Challenge: Day 47

Image
UPDATE 2/5/23: That kickass blue ombre square is Bernat Handicrafter, isn't it? Is that still a colorway they do? I could look it up but I'm not going to right now. I'd love to use it for some of my current projects, which you can get a better gander of on Facebook . I'll do this research later.  I sort of took this last week off from yarncrafting. I still worked on my super sexy yarn squares though, of course. Row 3 is coming along nicely and I did some repeating in this row. I not only used a color I used in the first row, but I had some temporary color blindness and I used it twice in the third row...a day apart. Whatever! Crapghans FTW! I made a pretty cool square out of the little bit of Moondance ombre that I had. It might be my favorite square yet. Just look at it. Wow. Such ombre! So gradient! Anywho. I did a little work on my pleated skirt for my crochet Sailor Saturn cosplay. I hope to finish up the skirt this week. When it's done, you can expect ...
